I wanted to hopefully have a single thread for this project to go over different things about the data set. This is a continuation of the "Advanced Bestiary" thread that huntercc started.

The first thing to mention is we may wish to get more "communicative" on what templates and things we are each doing? If we look at the list of Templates for the Community Bestiary HERE we see that we are getting more and more duplicates of templates instead of *new* templates. :(

The first thing I ever learned in programing was not to re-create the wheel. :) My hope for bringing this data set together into one LARGE package was to allow the different editors to build upon each others existing work.

I mean sometimes it will happen where two people make the exact same thing at the same time but with a little communication I think we can limit that actually.

Anyways please feel free to ask any and all questions related to CB here.

So far duplicated templates from Council of Thieves, as it's the only AP that I'm working on at the moment!

Element (Fire) infused template
Plague Bearer
Broken Soul
Negative-Energy Charged creature

I've nibbled away at the six books over a period of months, real life work gets in the way sometimes, and have almost completed the task. Estimate the next 3 days until 99% done, the Advodaza Devil domain selections still remain unresolved. :( Any help limiting the Domain selection greatly appreciated.;)

Advodazas possess areas of concern as deities do, but on a far smaller scale.

Each advodaza chooses one cleric domain and gains the domain spells (up to 5th level) of that domain as spell-like abilities, each of which it can use 3 times per day.

My version of the Dread Zombie template should be discarded, as it was missing a couple of elements; the other author's version seems to be complete.

BTW, thanks to those who coded the Divine Guardian template, just as I need it for my Runelords game!

Quick note I moved Frumple's and Bodrin's stuff to the 1.7 folder as I just put out 1.6 with a very small fix in it.

Just FYI. :)

Okay the Council of thieves dataset is approx 99.99% done. (The other .01% missing is the Advodaza Devil Cleric domain selection).
I'm going to revisit this sometime in the future.

Sent to the 1.7 folder.:)

Yea! Nice job!

I will start looking at this stuff maybe this weekend. The big Valentine day stuff is over but now I am playing catch up. :(

Do want to get this out to everyone so will try to start doing a little each night soon.

BIG THANK YOU for everyone that has been adding stuff.

I am going to be putting out a very small change in 1.7 as I was asked to get the MAC fix into the CB by Lone Wolf. So I will be getting all the big changes done but 1.7 is going to just be the one small fix.

So FYI that is why everything will be moved over to the 1.8 folder then.

Issue #1
Something to think about as I go through the stuff in Dropbox. It really is worth it for editors to see what already exists in the Data set before adding duplicate work. Not only are the EXACT same things being added multiple times the exact same Unique IDs are being used. I do recommend that everyone uses a two digit value to represent themselves so that we don't clash IDs with ourselfs or with Lone Wolf.

Issue #2
I just started to look at doing CB v1.9 and Dropbox currently is holding 570megs of data for this version.

Seems to be that the size of all the .por files has really gone up plus all the .stock files. Frumple amazing job with the amount of stuff here. I guess I am a little worried about size limits and stuff now.

I am not even 100% sure that the HL Export tool can deal with this size correctly as it was taking time dealing with 25 megs of stuff.

I also need to worry a little about bandwidth on my servers as people are downloading over half a gig per download and how long is that going to take for people to do?

Any thoughts anyone on this?

To save space, we always do stock portfolios that have images using the Portfolio menu...User Image Size...Shrink Image Size.

If you are using images in your stock portfolios, you may want to think about using that compression option, or leaving them out entirely.

Actually I built a GREP script to remove all images from the files as Images are one of the few ways to bring down the wrath of Paizo on us/me. As only very very few monster images are open source. So to make sure I don't get into trouble I just strip all images out totally of all the files. In this case doing so got me back 1 meg of space. :(

I think its just the HUGE number of .por files as many built the Encounter stuff also. So one encounter could list 15 goblins which is almost 2 megs. Multiple that over all the APs and 2 dozen Paizo Modules and you get 573megs. :(

As long as you're using stock portfolios already, I'd leave out those other 14 goblins unless they have different weapon loadouts - The user can add 15 of the same thing when they're pulling in the monsters from the stock portfolio. You could even name the goblin "15 goblins" to remind the user how many they should grab.

Hmmm yea but this is what I was given by others and I see the reason for it as it already had each goblin with a name starting with 1 to 15. Would sure make it easy for the next DM to just important them all into the combat board and be able to track the 15 individual goblins.

Well my only thought here is to move the .por files as separate downloads to the d20pfsrd website instead. :(

If you import multiples of the same stock character, HL will add a number to each of them.

This happens I can confirm, after decimating my group last night with a "off the story" side trek. Using Festrog #1, #2 and #3 in a hastily drawn lair map.

For everyone contributing to this I just wanted to remind everyone that they should see what is already in the data set before making new. I am seeing allot of duplicate work over and over again.

I don't know how many times the Ogrekin abilities need to be entered, coded, and sent in for example. I am pretty sure this is at least the 3rd time I have seen the B2 ones which where done a 1+ year ago for RotRL AP where sent in.

I just hate seeing people doing double/triple work on stuff. :)

Hmmm. Will need to look at each and every encounter one by one then. Yea that won't take long. :p
