After they become available, I would like to be able to use a d14, d16, d18, d20 (already available, can dust it off and use it again), and d22. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/674003445/spherical-d14-and-d18-the-missing-even-sided-game
Rolling a different die type can be fun. I figure that a d12+1 is a d14, d12+2 is d16, d12+3 is d18. d12+4 is d20, and d12+5 is d22. I also figure that this is mostly just an extension to the Professional, Expert, and Master edges, and there would need to be even more of them to make it go up to d22.
If these dice are used, either you could just leave the rules as-is, or you could opt to have the average bumped up a bit. d8 is the "new" average. The TN is 5, with all of the raises being a multiple of 5. Characters would need to start with a few more attribute points, maybe skill points, too.
Hero Lab would need to add in images of a d14, d16, d18, and d22 into that one folder that has the die images. It would also need to add in the equations somewhere and have it user selectable. I am thinking it would need three settings. The default, the normal average (just adding in the new dice as d12+1, and so on), and the new average (where it really just allows higher dice right off, so you can select past d12, and basically acts as a user setting that possible adds attribute and skill points at character generation, and maybe lowers the requirement of Professional to Seasoned and Expert to Heroic).
Is this all even possible? I am certainly not the only person to wonder about this. The changing of the TN doesn't actually affect Hero Lab at all, but the changing dice to either an add-on (the easiest and least game-changing) or as a standard for a given setting certainly would.
An alternate way for higher attributes is to follow the Edge way, and just spend edges after you get a d12 attribute to increase it further. This is probably the easiest way altogether. They cost the same anyway, and using edges is a rather simple, yet effective, method.
With that in mind, we just need a selectable "switch" that converts the trait value of what was 7 to be d14, 8 be d16, 9 be d18, 10 be d20, and 11 be d22. How you get those is through edges (requiring a d12 first, of course). I also need to add in the images as mentioned above.
