I'm running the evaluation version of HL, trying out the MM feature set.

I plan to run a PL 4 Sci Fi game. Many things are available to the players as equipment, and I'd like to have a custom list.

How do I add custom equipment to the list? Is equipment saved for later use after it's created?

Thinking ahead, can I have different equipment lists for different campaigns?

Use the Editor to add whatever equipment you want. Then you can give the data file(s) you create to your players and they can have access to all the same equipment as well. With the M&M files loaded, go to the Help menu and view the M&M Manual for HL. Then follow the link to adding your own custom content.
