Custom Ability Scores?

Is it possible to create a new Ability Score for any of the game systems? I was hoping to add a seventh score, Appearance, to my d20 (and possibly my Pathfinder) games.
 
As far as I understand you can not add a 7th ability score as that is controlled in the skeletal files that we as users have no access too.
