Creating new parent sources

I'm trying to create a new parent source to have all my conversions of a given Company's products inside it but when i try making a source that has another source i created as parent i have an error. I've read in another thread that i should edit the .user file and add selectable="no" before the /> in the of the usesource tag. But when i try to open Hero Lab after that i get an error and the new source is not listed. What should i do them?
