creating a new ranger comapanion

I admit I'm a noob at HL. I did some seaches here on the forums and with google in general before posting. I'm just not getting it.

Here is my situation: I'm playing a pathfinder home game. My character is a ranger that has chosen the animal companion option. My GM is allowing me to take a Chupacabra for my companion. Problem is, after spending about 2 hours messing with creating a new animal companion race in the editor, I still have not figured out how to get the new companion race to show up.

Some more detail on this part:In the editor, I copied an existing companion race and changed the name to test companion. I then ensured it had a unique ID and stuff per editor warnings. I then reactivated my licence and restarted HL. The test companion race is not showing up so I know I am missing something...

I looked at some of the other threads with a search for companion and they talked about how I could take monstrous companion feat and so forth. I have tried that and I still cannot take the Chupa.

Please help a noob. Thanks in advance.
