Craft alchemy & artisan's tools

Since my wizard has a rank in craft alchemy, I purchased an artisan's tools kit. But, thing is, Herolab won't let me assign it to the right skill. In fact, it's not event in the drop-down list. Am I missing something here? It seems to be pretty clear in the rulebook: "All crafts require artisan's tools to give the best chance of success...."

Thanx ; )

When I add Atrisan's Toolkit to my wozard I get a drop down menu to select which skill i would like to aply it too. When i select the skill, it shows as a -2 in the skills like, but when i check the equiped box with the skill it resets it to 0, which it should.

I think the problem you are having is that Alchemey just isnt on the list of option. While reading the Craft skill it does not provide a list of "Crafts", it only says these are some of the more common ones. While Alchemy is stated as a more common one and porabably should be in the list, it isnt at the moment. Colen or Rob might ant to take a look and see if they can add it in for the next release.

What might be a good idea is to create a list of Craft, Knowledge, and Professions and we as a User Community can add thje information and pass it around to everyone.

If you want the skill to require a tool its very easy to change. Simple start the Editor and then create a New Data File. Go to the Skill tab and press the blue "New(Copy)" button. Find the Craft: Alchemy skill and double click it.

In the central part of the editor look for "Tools?" and press the edit button and in the new window put a check mark next to "Skills Requires Tools".

In the top right area find a text box called Unique Id and change sk? to skCrafArmT. On the right side find Replaces Thing Id text box and put in skCrafArm.

Do a Test Now! and save the file and changes.

Once that finishes go ahead and open up your character and you will be able to select Alchemy from the tools.

This error is new to the latest version. I have an alchemist created with a previous version of HL - for that character the Craft: Alchemy correctly lists as requiring a tool.

My alchemist created with the latest version does not have that requirement. (Leaves to repost this in the Bugs thread).

The problem with Craft: Alchemy is that you have a discrepancy in the rules. At the end of the Craft Skill's description (Core Rulebook pg 93), it says the following: "If you are working in a city, you can buy what you need as part of the raw material cost to make the item, but alchemical equipment is difficult or impossible to come by in some places."

(If you do get temporary access to the tools for a skill, click the tools icon on the skill - it's a button)

In the description of the Alchemist's Lab (pg. 161), it says the following: "Without this lab, a character without the Craft (Alchemy) skill is assumed to have enough tools to use the skill..."

Hero Lab currently goes by the alchemist's lab - the requires tools icon is not normally visible, but if you have an alchemist's lab (or a portable alchemist's lab from the APG), a tools icon is displayed to show that you're making use of tools.

Mowgli, nothing about that has altered in any update.

Ok guys, thanx for the replies. I decided to do what Chemosh detailed in his post and now my Craft Alchemy skill requires tools..... ; )
