Constitution Damage adjustment

Hey all,
Per PF, when you suffer Constitution drain or damage, you loose current and max HP equal to (HD * CON Loss). But, when I add an adjustment for Ability Damage under the Adjust tab (I don't know if that adjustment is core, Frumple or ShadowChemosh's), hit points only go down by level for every two points lost.

Constitution: Damage to your Constitution score causes you to take penalties on your Fortitude saving throws. In addition, multiply your total Hit Dice by this penalty and subtract that amount from your current and total hit points. Lost hit points are restored when the damage to your Constitution is healed. A character with a Constitution score of 0 is dead.

Am I missing something, or is the adjustment not working correctly?

Read the section you linked on taking damage: For every 2 points of damage you take to a single ability, apply a –1 penalty to skills and statistics listed with the relevant ability.

Also that one is core. You can tell as it would list the source/book name on the adjustment otherwise.

Yes, I knew about the skill and statistics loss (and that calculates correctly as the stats are reduced), but those are separate from the HP lost listed in the CON description. At least, that is how I read it.

Thanks for the clarification that it is a core adjustment. Is there a way to modify it to reduce HP correctly or would a new adjustment need to be made until the dev's make the change in the core files?

It is working correctly. For every two point you will lose HP.

You can adjust it for your houserule if you want. Or just use a seperate HP adjustment to lower HP.

Or use the Drain instead of damage to work where you actually lower the Con score.

"In addition, multiply your total Hit Dice by this penalty and subtract that amount from your current and total hit points." isn't a house rule, this is part of the core rules.

When your stat drops by two, your bonus drops by 1. That's where the -1 to related skills and stats comes from. I get that, but then under the Con description it further states the above. That reads to me that in addition to loosing your skill related stat bonus, you also loose HP with that formula. So using that description, you wouldn't loose your HD in HP for every two lost points of CON, you would instead loose much more.

For example, if we take a 5th level character (5 HD) with 16 Constitution and 35hp who took 6 points of constitution damage. Following the rules of how much hp is lost: 5 x 6 = 30 (HD x Ability Points Lost). Their max HP would be reduced to 5, not 20 (30 points lost, not 15).

Also, at the beginning is says "This damage does not actually reduce an ability, but it does apply a penalty to the skills and statistics that are based on that ability" So if your score doesn't actually reduce, you shouldn't loose the HP based on a lower score. You're getting a penalty to your dependent skills/stats and additional HP loss per the formula.

You are reading it a little off. Ability score damage states:
For every 2 points of damage you take to a single ability, apply a –1 penalty to skills and statistics listed with the relevant ability.
Constitution states:
In addition, multiply your total Hit Dice by this penalty and subtract that amount from your current and total hit points.
It is talking about the penalty of -1 per 2 points of damage. That is the only penalty mentioned at all in the Ability Score Damage section. The reduction to Con in not a penalty but is damage.

AH-HA!

DOH! I see where I was mixing it up. Geeze. One word, penalty. The penalty applied FOR the amount of stat loss. Oh my. Thanks for helping clear that up for me.
