Okay - I just saw the ad today for Games Workshop's rip off of Army
Builder. While I have no problem with friendly competition I have
seen how GW operates first hand (especially with their recent
shutting down of all online distributors).

Their 'official' rip off is $30 and you only get access to 'Friends
of the Imperium'. Enemies of the Imperium is due out later and will
cost you an additional $30.

Does anyone know if they are planning on targeting Army Builder or
Lone Wolf Development over Army Builder? I know they have always
considered it a 'grey area' (this is per their employees) because
they felt it cut into codex sells (which is utter BS) - but I would
hate to see them go after Lone Wolf because they want 100% of this
market as well.

*sigh* Not this one again.

GW has nothing on AB, as the software isn't the files. The only ones who
would have any worries would be the file maintainers, and GW would have to
be incredibly dumb to go that route, as they would instantly alienate a good
percentage of their clientele.

They'd be better simply making a better product, something I doubt very much
they will ever be able to do. Frankly, I can't see why they even bother with
AB out there...

And this has all been hashed out here ages and ages ago...

And this would be different from their day-to-day business practices, how?

If GW wanted to, they could make it incredibly difficult to locate AB data
files for GW games. IMNSHO Lone Wolf and AB will live long and prosper but
the file 40k3.ab will be rather hard to find.

Once the P2P file sharing programs like Kazaa can make their users
anonymous, problems will be solved. But heck, Kazaa already has codexes for
download and GW doesn't seem too interested ATM.

You mean, given that the files is *already* widespread? I find that *extremely*
doubtful. The key here is that the file maintainers have already gone to great
lengths to ensure that GW doesn't feel that their rights have been trod upon
with the files, delaying release of new army data until after books are out for
1 month+, not copying rule info verbatim, etc.

You just argued against yourself there, you realise?
