Greetings Again,
Two posts in one night....wow....i'm running rampent!!!

Was wondering if it might be possiable in a future release to make it so that you can change the composition rule set without having to rebuild the whole roster.

Example:
I build an army with a Standard Force Org Comp Set

I want to apply it to a Breakout Mission with a New Comp Set.

Would be nice to be able to check the new Comp Setting and see how it fits.

Thanks,
Paul

You can currently do so in a limited way - if you're in a non-standard
mission scenario (for example, Battle - Defender) go to the Roster menu,
select Composition Rule Set, and select Standard Mission. This activates
the Standard Mission ruleset instead of the Battle Defender one.

However, "Battle - Defender" will still display on printouts etc. In
summary, it would be possible, but not doing it lets you select missions
really easily - from the Scenario selector in the Create Army screen. So
it's unlikely to change, I'm afraid. :/

This would NOT be easy to do, but I'll put it on the todo list in case I
can figure out a cleaner way of handling it. The mission selection dictates
lots of critical information for 40K beyond just the composition rule set,
so I'm honestly not even certain this would be possible. I'll look into it,
though.

Thanks, Rob

Well thank you for even thinking about it.

What about something where you would be able to export your army into a file then import it into a new comp set? Not quite what I was thinking, but still would be
beneficial.

Thanks,
Paul

I could launch into all the technical details here, but I'm sure your eyes
would glaze over. :-) Suffice to say that the information tracked within AB
is explicitly tied to the scenario you select when the roster is created.
This includes things like unit X being treated differently under scenarios
A and B. This means that you CANNOT switch between scenarios once you've
created your roster. Switching the composition rule-set is easy, provided
constraints associated with the scenario don't impact the composition
handling. Unfortunately, for 40K, I believe that the scenario selection
DOES impact the composition handling in various cases, so this isn't
possible (Colen can confirm whether I'm correct in this). AB did it this
way 3 years ago for performance reasons. Now that computers are a lot
faster, it's on the todo list to change this in a future release.

Hope this helps,
Rob

For most things it doesn't (e.g., just the normal "Standard mission",
"Battle - Attacker" etc.) but for a few it does - planetfall, Grand
Tournament, etc. It was a design decision on my part, which I believe to
have been entirely correct at the time. :)

Yay :)
