Common not so common anymore!

Help!
I seem to have lost "Common" in my language set. All the others are there, and it must be present somewhere, because if I try to recreate it with the id "lCommon" I get an error message saying that it already exists, but when I create a character it a) doesn't appear in the language lists when you choose languages, and b) any character that normally has "Common" as an automatic language (such as a human) simply doesn't have it.

Anyone have any ideas? Sorry I can't be more specific - I have absolutely no idea what may have happened for Common to have disappeared. I was using the editor to create a couple of critters (Greenspawn Razorfiend and Bluespawn Stormlizard), but languages weren't even involved with them. I didn't notice the problem until I tried to add "Common" to a hobgoblin and couldn't find it in the list.

Is there a particular update that I could re-install that might replace it?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Al

On the configure hero form, check your settings. One of the options in the house rules section is "No common language".

Yes, when I did the languages from the PF Campaign Setting I replaced Common with Taldane (Common) because Taldane is the proper name for Common in Golarion.
I used the replace thing to do so. I didn't expect that people would use the PFCS languages file while possibly using it for another campaign world.
I will most likely be doing a Greyhawk Languages file, however with that file there will be a Common as that is what it is called.

That is because Thoecrat is doing a Replace Thing ID in that .user file. Or at least I am pretty sure he is.

As was just learned in THIS thread it turns out that Replaces Happen before anything else even the Source check. So if Common gets replaced then it always is replaced regardless of the source.

Their is a solution in that thread also that should be pretty easy to implement.

Ah, I think blzbob and Theocrat have nailed it. When I deleted the PFRPG_PC_CampaignSettingLanguages.user file (which I'd forgotten I'd downloaded, to be honest) I had "Common" reappear in my languages list.

The only problem is that I now get an error on load saying that I'm missing the source file...so obviously I've created something, somewhere, that's used the PFRPG_PC_CampaignSettingLanguages.user as a source. Wish I could remember what! *grrr*. Never mind, I'll put up with the error until I can figure something else out!

Thanks for the help, guys.

Al

PS: Would recreating "Common" as "lCommon" and using "Replace" work? I'm a bit hesitant to try it in case I break something, but I wondered if some of you smart guys would know?

Oh, never mind about that last bit, guys...I think I just fixed it. I just went into Taldane (Common) and removed the "lCommon" text in the "Replace ID" field and reloaded without a problem, no error messages and I now have "Common" back!

Thanks again for your help! :)

I just had a thought. I'm unsure, but see it as likely, that some monsters or other things from the Bestiary might have languages, and Common is listed for them. If this is the case, would the Taldane (Common) automatically overwrite those as well?
Tim, might need to make a note that in the Languages file, Taldane (Common) overwrites the Common.
