Cleric Alignments

I am trying to make a cleric of Moradin and am having a problem with how the deity's alignment works with my character's alignment. According to the PHB Moradin is lawful good which, since a cleric's alignment can be one step off that should allow for allignments of lawful good, neutral good and lawful neutral. Though I know the Deities & Demigods book is not OGL it does state that Moradin's clerics can be of any of those three alignments.

No, when I try and make my neutral good cleric of Moradin I get a prereq error based on alignment not being lawful. So, I went and tried lawful neutral and that one also does not fit the prereq. The software only seems to let me choose lawful good since the deity's alignment is lawful good.

I am using the current version of Hero Lab with all updates.

If I am missing a setting somewhere please point that out, but if not let me know if this is a bug or not.

Thanks much.

I'd say this calls for a check of a FAQ, since HL is making sure that if you are neutralGE, your deity is also NeutralGE, and if you are NeutralLC, your deity is also NeutralLC.

I read the must be neutral provision as may not be true neutral, but I can see both ways of reading it.

Okay, FAQ checked:

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/er/20030221a

Go to the "Main D&D FAQ" (it's 3ed, but the issue is not addressed in the 3.5 FAQ - so why didn't they re-phrase things to make them clearer, if they had to answer it in a FAQ).

By neutral, they meant True Neutral, rather than checking each axis separately, so only True Neutral clerics need True Neutral deities.

So, according to the FAQ, my NG cleric would be acceptable for a LG deity? At least that's how I am reading your post.

I understand it that the "one step" difference is on either the lawful/chaotic axis or on the good/evil axis. And, the true neutral situation was the only one odd enough to call for a FAQ entry.

Yeah, I think it was a mis-interpretation of what neutral meant in that restriction. The FAQ does support those three alignments being available for clerics of Moradin. So, I'd ignore the validation error in HL until the next version.

You're right, that's a bug - I'll make sure this gets fixed in the next
version. Thanks!
