Character portraits

I think this is a general question, but I'm looking at a character sheet for Pathfinder 2nd Edition. The question is: the portrait area, when I click on it, tells me the portrait must be png or jpg (or jpeg) format, and that png will be converted to jpg. it also says that anything bigger than 1000 pixels either wide or tall with be automatically resized. So I gather the maximum size is 1000x1000 pixels. Is there an optimum size?

The image files that you can/could download (for HLC) were nearly all 600 in either height or width. I found anything from 300-600 pixels in either dimension worked well.
