Channeling and Possession traditions?

I've noticed that if you have the Channeling metamagic any spirit possession automatically applies it. Is there a way to toggle this, as its an optional power and in some circumstances straight possession is the optimal choice?
 
On the In-Play tab, look for an activation named "Un-willingly Possessed or relinquished control".
