So, I've been wanting to replace the current set of skills in Pathfinder with my own set. I've combined a few, replaced a few, but mainly gotten rid of a bunch.
The thing is, it gets really complicated when the original skills are still there. So, I tried to use the "hidden" tag to get rid of the old skills. This of course, breaks everything, as there are things bootstrapped to those old skills.
I then REPLACED all the old skills using "replaces thing ID", and made all the skills I wanted to get rid of "craft: BasketX" where X is a number. Since you have to select all the basket craft skills, it ends up being more or less hidden.
Naturally though, this screwed up all the monsters, who now had various ranks in craft (baskets). I figure I can have the monsters continue to use the old system and simply let the players use the new one, so I attached every one of my new skills to a new usersource. Perfect? Sort of. The new items only appear to player's who select that source book.
However, the things they replace remain gone even when the source is not selected (why this doesn't ruin everything bootstrapped to it is something I don't really understand).
I could theoretically just get rid of the new skills' replacing aspect, and keep all the old skills, setting them up as "must add manually" in the way of craft skills.
However, I must admit I want certain skills to work as other skills. I'm using a new skill "persuasion" now, that works as diplomacy, bluff, and intimidate in one. I'd like for things that effect diplomacy normally to instead effect the new persuasion skill. In this way, I'm not quite willing to disconnect it from the diplomacy skill.
I'm not sure if any of this makes sense, but in essence, I'd like to have:
- A selection of skills that I can use only when I select a source, that replace certain skills with other skills
- Also, I want those replaced skills to come back whenever I do not select that source.
