Can't seem to update a Category on import

Janrith

Well-known member
I have what seems to be an odd issue.

I have a realm I'm using to build out my base Mechanics, and trying to export/import data from that realm into my actual Campaign/Module realms, but RW keeps making copies of the categories rather than simply replacing the categories.

Regardless of the Preserve/Overwrite settings I apply during an import, I can't seem to avoid RW copying a category to "category01".

The Overwrite seems to imply it *should* be replacing the categories already in the realm, but it's not actually doing so.

I'm at a loss as to how to get this to work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Are the categories from a previous import? If not it doesn't matter what they're named RW sees them as different since categories need unique names...

Yes they are from a previous import, and I did create unique names for them initially. Sine they'd have the same internal ID from the previous import, I'd have thought they would align and update rather than be brought in as a copy, especially when the Overwrite option is selected under "Conflicts When Importing Structure". The info tooltip for that option reads:

If you choose "Overwrite the conflicting parts of my current structure with the structure being imported", structure elements in the import file will overwrite the conflicting parts of your current structure. However, any structure elements not changed in the import file will not be overwritten in your current structure.

But it doesn't appear to behaving according to this information.

Never had this problem but I don't think I've done a category import since right after import/export was released.
