A new Realm Works Beta release is now available for download (build 0.9.101.140). This version is available to all Beta team members AND all Kickstarter backers. This new Beta includes a variety of bug fixes and also features full syncing to the server. Please note that ONLY Beta team members will be able to leverage the full syncing capabilities at this time, as we're still keeping things small while we continue to work out issues with syncing.

Important general items about this release:
- A backup of your database will be automatically created when you install this version. It will be stored in the file "My Documents\Realm Works\Realm_Works_Upgrade_To_140_Backup.REALM". Additionally, once the database upgrade has completed with this version, another backup will be created in "My Documents\Realm Works\Realm_Works_Build_140_Master_Backup.REALM". IMPORTANT: Once you upgrade, this backup file will be the earliest backup you can use henceforth, so keep it safe.
- Once you upgrade to this new version, you MUST connect to the server to complete the upgrade. This version will NOT be usable offline until it has contacted the server once. After that initial connection, you can work offline.
- Working offline does not require entering a password. Any password you've entered will be ignored when you click the "Work Offline" button
- If you encounter any crashes, please send the crash reports so we can figure out the problem and fix it quickly. Be sure to include a description of what you were doing prior to the crash, as that will help us figure out the problem significantly faster.
- Sneaker netting still works. However, each of the machines must have connected to the server at some point prior to restoring the databases.
- You must be on build 122 or later before updating to this latest build. Being on a previous build will not be supported as we have removed a lot of upgrade logic from previous builds to help simplify development.
Special notes about syncing (important to Beta team members only):
- Server syncing is now operational, although there are still many enhancements and optimizations planned. Our goal right now is to verify the basic functionality, so please sync your realms to the server, perform update syncs after making changes, and leverage syncing across multiple computers.
- You can now sync everything up to the server and then go to another machine and sync everything down instead of using sneaker net. To achieve this on the second computer, you must first delete your existing database and log in with your account.
- Please make note of the names of your realms prior to syncing. When you sync a realm down to a new computer, it's possible that the name will not be up-to-date. If that happens, please rename the realm on the machine that has incorrect data and sync the realm back up to the server, which should correct things going forward. This can only happen to users that have been using Realm Works across multiple computers (via sneaker net), and it's the only data that we're aware could be "lost" during syncing.
- At the present time, there are NO provisions in place for making changes independently on different computers and then resolving those differences during syncing. It's fine to make changes on machine 1, sync them up to the server, sync them down to machine 2, and then make changes on machine 2. But don’t make changes on both machines at the same time, since you will be forced to overwrite one set of those changes by wiping the database. Therefore, treat the use of multiple computers exactly like you would with sneaker net.
- If you restore an old backup after syncing to the server, you will be required to take the changes from the server before you may sync again. Do not restore an old backup in an attempt to revert to an earlier version of the realm. Once it’s on the server, it’s there – you should move forward, not roll back. We’ll be providing merging logic in the future, but it does not exist now.
- Syncing to the cloud may take a while when you are performing your first syncs, particularly on slow internet connections and/or with large realms. There are lots of optimizations that will be put into place in the days and weeks ahead, but our initial goal is to simply get it all working correctly. In our testing, we have seen the first syncs taking about 20-30 minutes, including the upload time, for very large realms.
- If you terminate a sync while it is uploading data to the server, you will have to restart the sync from the beginning. However, no data loss should occur. If you attempt to terminate a sync after it has been fully uploaded to the server, that sync WILL COMPLETE. At that point, you MUST initiate the sync again to complete the final phase, and you will be forbidden access to the realm until this is done.
- Very slow internet connections may be unable to upload or download larger realms currently. If you have anything that qualifies as broadband (if you can download/upload 50MB in less than 10 minutes), then you should be fine. We intend to target high dial-up speeds for v1.0.
- Please let us know through support cases filed at http://wolflair.com/redirect/rwsupport.htm if you are experiencing RECURRING sync failures. If you get an occasional sync failure, it's likely related to network hiccups. But if you get them often, it could be an indication of problems that we need to address, so please let us know through the support link to ensure we have contact information to reach you if we need further details.
- When you first start up, if a realm shows that you must open it, this indicates some fixup is required before it can be synced to the server. Just open the realm and then switch back to "My Realms" and it should now be available to sync to the server.
Various other fixes/enhancements include the following:
- The disappearing tags issue has been resolved
- We identified one way that memory consumption would grow and have fixed that case
- 31592 - ArgumentException from Manage_Categories_Control.Add_Snippet_Type
- 31410 - Help screens should not support minimize
- 31858 - GM directions-only snippets would cause changing the category of a topic to fail
- 31933 - Tag-based snippets remained faded after having tags assigned to them
- 32379 - Re-sequencing topics of the Individual category incorrectly put Portrait snippets first
