Will do.
I will drop by your both at ORIGINS to say hi.

Thanks for a great program.
Thanks to all of the authors for their work on the files. Until I started
trying it on my own I really had no concept of the difficulty involved but
maybe I am thicker than the average user (wannbe author) too.

In my real job I am a software support tech (not a programmer). I have no
problems navigating the OS or using any programs. It's when I start learning
the how to set up the guts and I learn best by seeing & doing. The manuals
have terms that I am not familiar with so I have to muddle through it.

I look forward to giving it another go in the new version.

Well, as a fellow file author, hey, Fairy Meat might
not be much of a game but it's fun!, I'm up for the
Beta Testing...

On a side note I checked out the sight but couldn't
find an answer to a payment question...We had a thread
about international but did it somewhere mention
people in the US who don't have access to credit
cards? I don't have a prob paying $9/ year but about
the only way I could pay would be by check (my debit
card is not credit compatable) or purchasing through a
store...Is there any way to sell the liscences in a
manner simmilar to the way Everquest sells their
monthly access in retail?
This might also entice stores who carry AB
currently...the local modeling store here carries AB
and GW but generally promotes the former since we all
love to use it...however under the new liscencing
they'd only be making money from other programs so
they have a vested interest in promoting them over AB...

We'll be able to accept checks drawn in US funds on US banks without any
problems. So US customers can send us a check if they don't have access to
a credit card. The only problems in this regard are with international
customers, as discussed in earlier posts.

As I mentioned previously in a response to a different post, selling the
renewals in stores means that the price will be significantly higher. To
get the renewals to stores, we have to package the renewals (that's a cost)
and ship the renewals (another cost). We have to use a distributor to get
the product to stores, and the distributors expect to make a profit. Then
the retailer expects to make a profit when they sell the renewal. The
current renewal price is kept low because none of these extra costs have to
be factored in. We pass the savings along to the customer. If we sold the
renewals through stores, the likely price would be in the $30 range for the
same net amount to us. Welcome to the reality of the business world.

Lastly, stores will still be selling AB to new customers, just as they do
today. They will not be losing any money compared to how things work today.
So your argument in favor of selling the renewals through stores doesn't
make any sense to me.

There are currently no renewals with AB2, and stores happily sell it. Since
the GW tool has no renewals that stores can charge for, there is no
financial benefit for stores to sell the GW tool. If the financial end is
the same for a store, they'll likely promote the product they feel is
better and that they know their customers like. That results in another
happy customer that will return and buy more stuff from the store, as
opposed to a customer who feels betrayed when he is pointed to a product he
discovers is poor (as the GW tool has been described to me by many users
who tried it).

If there was a way to sell the renewals through stores without the 3x
multiplier (3x is the minimum), I'd happily do it. But that's how business
works. And it's almost the exact same model in just about every major
industry. If users are fine with paying three times the amount, we can sell
the renewals through stores, but I'm guessing most users would rather find
a friend or family member with a credit card to make the purchase for them
if it means saving $20. :-)

So the CDs (v1.0? v2.0?) will still be sold in stores
even after 3.0 comes out? Yes I know a voucher comes
with the CD to upgrade free...The wording is a little
unclear on the website...sorry, I interpreted that
people buying the 2.0 CD up until 3.0 comes out get
the voucher and after 3.0 comes out the CDs will be
phased out...Bad assumption but it never says what's
happening with the hard copies...Thanks for the
info...
And, despite the business background, I hadn't thought
about the excess cost...I was mostly brainstorming
with the misunderstanding about the CDs...
Looking forward to trying out the XML file creator...

Once V3.0 comes out, it will be sold just like V2 is today. There will be a
box containing a CD with AB on it and a license. The user installs AB from
the CD and then uses the license to unlock AB, just like most other software.

For users who download AB from our website and purchase it online, the only
real difference from the CD is that the product will be installed from the
download instead of from the CD. Once installed, the license is still
needed to unlock AB.

Hope this is clearer....
