Beastiary Templates

First of all, thanks for the continuing support of this product. I am impressed.

Now a question. I was attempting to add a Orc as a mob from the alternative race templates. The default setting was Orc Warrior, level 1, d10 hit dice and 7 hit points. Is that a default Orc or an Orc as a PC race?

Can I just use a Orc as a mob with a d8 hit dice?

The stock portfolios are each an attempt to copy whatever was in the Bestiary for that race. You're the GM - how a critter is represented in your game is your choice.

Normally, PCs wouldn't use the Warrior NPC class - they'd go with fighter/ranger/barbarian/paladin as their combat-focused class.

Given that the Orc in the Pathfinder Bestiary is a Warrior 1 with 6 hp (1d10+1 hp), I'd say that's the default.

If you want a d8 HD orc, then you should be able to simply change to class to one that uses a d8 for hp.

But remember that Pathfinder has upped the hp amounts for many classes across the board, and increased the power of the PC classes, so a d10 HD orc should be the same challenge as a 3.5 d8 HD orc.
