Alternative while waiting for release?

Hi, unfortunately I found out about the kickstarter too late and have to wait for the public release of Realm Works. In the meantime, I'm looking for something to help me organize information for the Rise of the Runelords adventure path for Pathfinder and I'm looking for software with similar functionality as Realm Works. Would something like Tomboy notes be useful? I've looked at OneNote and it doesn't have autolinking like Realm Works or Tomboy. Any suggestions?

Try the Paizo boards too

paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfinder, people are very helpful and a bigger audience there than here.

I currently use MyInfo. Tree-like information, no autolinking, but then again, I'm waiting for Realm Works for a reason. If I were in your shoes, I'd pick something that would just help you get your information in one place and then wait for release. Then again, you're not in my shoes, and I'm not letting you borrow them either. :D

I used to use The Keep. It was all bare bones and at first I found it really useful, but it has never had an update and personally I consider it overpriced for what it offers. It worked, but I'm waiting for Realm Works for a reason too.

I used to keep all my info in an Access Database (you can link / embed in that), but it is VERY hard work, and I'm forever adding new tables ...

I'm also waiting on Realm Works for a reason ... :)

Johnn Four came out with a series of 16 vids on organizing campaign information with MyInfo (what I currently use). I'm only on 2, but I can already tell it's going to help.

It'll make it easier moving it to RW, at least that's the theory.

I was originally going to use spreadsheets with hyperlinks to other spreadsheets to organize stuff, then thought about a wiki, and that's when I stumbled upon Realm Works...

I'm also waiting on Realm Works for a reason!

How do you watch these videos?

If you are a PC user, I've been using Articy:draft, which I got off steam. Cool program, especially if you are into rpg video game design.

I'll still get Realm Work for its ability to speak to hero lab, but for now, it's working for me.

Articy:draft does look pretty cool. I'm holding out for Realm Works, but it was tempting :)

I wonder if my child will be born (June 25, 2014 is his estimated release date) before Realm Works is released? About to start another in person tabletop campaign with a mishmash of maptool, tomboy notes, email and text message attachments, skydrive documents, and paper handouts. Don't need the syncing function at all since I'm using a dual monitor setup with my laptop, though player accounts would be nice. *sigh*

I'm currently using Liquid Story Binder and Microsoft OneNote - the former because I can have flowcharts and character dossiers and the like, the latter because I can link pieces of information with each other and create tables more easily there.

Yeah... guess why I'm waiting for Realm Works :D

Before Realm Works, I used many things. Besides the ones that were mentioned, such as Word, Excel, The Keep and OneNote, but I also used

TreePad: I did buy the full business version and it was good. Not great for my purposes but good. It does allow for links, images, hyperlinks, drag and drop, searching, web site creation, full text editor and spell check, and more. At the time, and it was probably six or seven years ago, it was quite good and if OneNote was out at the time, I didn't know about it. It's basically a OneNote lite and I only say that because I liked the ability in OneNote to click anywhere and start typing or for the ability to save something outside of OneNote to be filed in OneNote. But still a decent enough program, imo.

There might have been more but I don't remember. If I think of it, I will add it later.

Interestingly, one thing I have experienced with note-taking tools is that even the ones that are absolutely brilliant in their feature set (OneNote and The Keep both come close) somehow leave me unsatisfied. I suspect that this is mostly because I need more than "just" a note-taking tool - I need something to tease my imagination and/or give me a road to follow when I'm stuck. This is actually something Realm Works seems to do fairly well, due to the way it is organized - which is why I'm looking forward to it.

Does anyone else feel that way?

On this topic, I'm writing a new system for my game as well as a setting, what would you guys recommend for that process? I've been using Word, but it's clunky for keeping things organized.

I'm interested in Realm Works for my setting material, but would it be suitable for composing the system as well?

I think it boils down to the individual users process. I know speaking for myself the keep, word , onenote and yes even realmworks when it is in my grubby wonting paws are tools; that make the organization of my campaign easier. However they will never be the impetus behind the ideas that fuel my campaigns those come from the things i watch on tv or netflix, The books and Fan fiction i read, the roleplaying session where i get to be a player, Discussing player character backgrounds and desires, and last but not least discussing ideas with five of my friends who are all GM's.

In my experience Things like Campaign Cartographer,Fractal Mapper,The Keep, and with realmworks on the horizon, they are wonderful tools but they require our creative juice to work i sincerely doubt they will ever give you the ideas if you are stuck but that is my thought process
