Alchemical Item Formulas

Last one for now.

This might be a bit of a squiggly usage case, but it looks like in the Remaster they changed how formulas work for varied level items.

GM Core pg. 223 says:

"Some items with multiple type entries get special treatment when it comes to formulas and upgrades. The existing knowledge you have about the item means you don’t need to start from scratch with these items.
If you have the formula for an item, you don’t need a different formula to Craft a different type of that item that’s just a higher-level upgrade. For example, if you have the formula for a +1 weapon potency rune, you don’t need to secure a new formula to etch a +2 weapon potency rune. This works similarly with items such as a spacious pouch with its multiple types or doubling rings with a base version and greater version."

Player Core 2 pg. 58 repeats this info under the Alchemist Formula Book section:

"As normal, having the base formula is sufficient when Crafting upgraded types of the item—you don’t need to learn higher-level formulas. For instance, if you have the 1st-level formula for a minor elixir of life, you can create a minor, lesser, moderate, greater, major, or true elixir of life as long as you meet the level and other prerequisites. Items with type entries that have widely varied functions require separate formulas, but most alchemical items have a structure similar to elixir of life."

I can work around this for an Alchemist character by just adding the upgraded formulas for free when they become available, but it would be nice to be able to just buy the formula for, say, Alchemist's Fire rather than having to add multiple versions of it.

Any plans for this on the development road map?

That's actually in the works right now. I recently did some infrastructure changes to support having one formula count for multiple items, which is in place with the recent update that also made formula prices show in the table of purchase options, it's just a case now of having the items themselves apply the proper changes so you just buy the lowest level version. Not sure exactly when it will be ready, but my hope is releasing it when War of Immortals goes out in a few weeks.
