Adventure Path Bestiaries

I want to use Hero Lab to build NPCs using creatures found in the bestiaries of Paizo's Adventure Path line. Specifically, the Jade Regent series. I'd happily purchase data packages from Lone Wolf, but they do not appear to be available. After a Google search I found ShadowChemosh's post about the d20pfsrd - Community Bestiary. I downloaded the Jade Regent files from d20pfsrd and even followed installation instructions to connect Hero Lab to the Community Packages.

Unfortunately, none of these included the bestiary entires of the Nogitsune, Ja Noi, Earth Yai, Wind Yai, and so on. Assuming I have done everything correctly, what are my options? I'm new to Hero Lab, but willing to learn. I've tried building a Ja Noi, which mostly worked. But this defeats the purpose of having Hero Lab to a certain degree, at least for me, as I've wanted to make encounter creation easier.

I apologize if I've missed something or if this topic has been answered in another thread. I performed a search on these forums and found no applicable results.

Thanks!

I have no access here at work to HL but it sounds like you setup up the CB correctly. This means those Monsters from the back of the AP where not actually used in the AP itself. As such many of the times the editors won't do the work of inputting them actually. If the monsters is in an actual encounter than it should have been added.

I am sure their is still hundreds of thousands of missing monsters that are from 3PP and AP's that never made it into HL officially or in the community stuff. The downside is only so many people are entering stuff and only so much time in a day. So some monsters will be missed.

My advice is to pick up using the Editor actually. Monsters are a great start as they are allot easier to enter actually as many of the "pieces" (ie Racial Abilities) are already in HL and you can just bootstrap it on.

Plus many Monster Abilities can just be entered as Text with no scripts. Other times my Adjustments addon can be used to mimic the mechanics you need to start with. So you add the ability as a text and then set an adjustment on the Race to do increase/decrease any values.

For starting to learn the Editor check out FAQ#2 and watch the intro videos. Also reading the Glossary of Terms is a good place to start to pick up the lingo. :)

xebeche,

All of the monsters in the AP Bestiary should be there. They should be in a user file called "PFRPG_Bestiary - AP09 - Jade_Regent.user" Check that file is in your HL data folder. Also, make sure you have Jade Regent checked on your character's Configure screen (Ctl-K). It is down on the list quite a ways under Pathfinder Adventure Paths. The monsters from the various APs will not show up unless their particular AP is checked.

In any case, Shadow is correct. Monsters are a great place to start learning the editor and the HL scripting language. No reason you have to use the ones in the Community Bestiary. You can make your own!

In addition to the editor, if you have the Advanced Race Guide package you gain access to the Race Builder too. You can use this or the Bestiary Monster Creation to add monsters into Hero Lab portfolios as well. This is a great option if you want to add monsters of your own creation or modify existing ones.
