Hello, is there any way to adjust the size of a parent unit via an option chosen on a child unit?

Thanks,

Keith

I may be wrong, but I think the best you can do is adjust the min or
max using prng:

What is the exact effect you're after?

Cheers,
Russell.

Unit A has a unit size of 2-3. It can add unit B as a child with a range of
0-2. But, if unit B has a model count of 2 then unit A has to have a model
count of 2. In other words, both of the units together can't be more then 4
models.

Thanks,

Keith

Actually, I just realized that what I was coming up with won't work
exactly. Hopefully I've given you an idea of how you could do it though
(it's too early in the morning to work this out right now).

The way I had to do something like this is a bit clumsy, but it does
work. Your top level unit is A, with a size of 2:2, its child is also
A, unit size 0:2, and the child of that is B, size 1:2 (or 0:2 if
there's not an option that turns B on and off), and there's a coun
attribute on the B (but not on the A).

Mathias, thanks for the info. I'm trying to cut down on the number of child
units added as there are already a lot in this game system. I really hate
having a 3-4 page list for 1500 pts!

Thanks,

Keith

In that case, you should be able to use something like this:

An option on Unit B that sets a hidden stat MC (model count):
stat:MC=#
Another option (later in the priority) for unit B that has:
usta:MC=2
prng:max=2
This second option should reduce the parent maximum to 2 (instead of
3) but only when the model count of unit B reaches 2.

How does that sound? I haven't tested this, but I think it should
work - Let us know :-)

Cheers,
Russell.

Well, got it to work a little differently.

Here is how unit A is set up.

Options:
baShr17 ~~~>unit:baSmPt@abs=1; show:baShr171
baShr171~~~>csiz:baSmPt+1; hide; prng:max=2

That works out just right! Thanks for the tip on prng:

Thanks,

Keith

It will not let me save the option because of an error in the attribute
stat:MC=# Should # be a number? I've tried it as a number and it still
will not save.

Thanks,

Keith

Oops :-) It should be stat:MC=(#) - sorry 'bout that!
# is a special variable equal to the current unit model count and it
is only available in an expression, which mean you need the ()...

It should work if you put a number in there... Of course, you also
need to have the MC stat defined in your .def file - I was just
using MC as an example - you can choose any variable name you like.
:-)

Cheers,
Russell.
