adding mythic tiers

Also make sure that you have Mythic Adventures Pack and that it has been turned on in your configure menu.

If you just bought a Pack in hero Lab it does not auto add on to any previously created characters.

Its suppose to and it will sometimes but its true not always.

I make up "template" characters for my campaigns (preselected the allowed books) and I have to go in and "turn off" all the new books I get each month. So sometimes it works but not always.

If you save a character while an option is locked out, HL will record that it is turned off for that character. Then, if you purchase that package later, that state will not change once you've purchased it.

Yep..it is annoying to have to go back and remove new books from NPCs or PCs I prepared ahead of time.

I think I have half a clue as to why these statements can both be true and still seem contradictory at the same time.

If say, the base game default, and by that I mean the options button that says Game Default, is to have everything included, barring some of the "optional" rules...

Let's say that ShadowChemosh and Silveras of the super supportive type and buy every single Pathfinder release as it comes out.

If the if/then logic in Hero Lab checks on portfolio open against the license first to see what is available, then against what has been turned off, then a book that was not a part of Hero Lab at all the last time the character was pulled up, but is an available option for the license holder, it would have those books now added to the portfolio in a usable state.

If however, ShadowChemosh or Silveras skipped picking up a portfolio right away, then the unavailable flag gets set to off, and it doesn't crop up for that book.

It's just a question of how the flags get set, vs how they get read, I think.

Edit: on further thought, I can see why it would be set up in this hypothetical way, is that a "basic" user who buys all the books as they come out, (ie: not someone who monkeys with code, or is super helpful with templates and stuff) doesn't have to mess with Hero Lab too much. While Power Users know more about HeroLab and thus have an easier time turning things off...

But that's just a theory regarding LCD, and may not have any actual basis in reality.
