Adding a Class

furby076

Well-known member
So I downloaded the Ninja class from a fan site (http://www.cheeseweasel.net/) and I put it in my pathfinder directory.

I can go into the editor and see the Ninja class, but I can't find it in the list to add the class to my character. Going to Configure Your Hero I see nothing new to indicate how to choose that.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Correct. I do not see it listed. I have the filter to show "everything" and I looked up and down the list.
I also went to create a new character just in case that was the issue.

In case this helps this is the name of the file:

CAdv - Ninja (C 4-21-10).user

OK. So I removed some files (spell compendium.dat files) and reloaded the Hero Labs. I then got "The following files could not be loaded due to data errors"

It looks like the file you're trying to use was originally written for d20. The d20 files can't be used in Pathfinder without a bit of alteration.

For a class, I'm afraid it tends to be a lot of alteration.

The Cadv - Ninja file is a d20 dataset. Written by Lawful_g it's from the complete adventurer book. So it won't work in pathfinder without altering the code as Mathias said.

The d20 code will not work for Pathfinder. you would need to enter in all the information again and make the changes. Probably not the answer you want to hear, lol. Sorry about that.

This is really where the community should start working on actually is converting the 3.5 stuff to Pathfinder as HL can't touch it as it is Non-OGL.

I got the impression that a few people have converted 3.5 stuff to pathfinder but have not shared it. I humbly ask that if anyone has any of the 3.5 stuff converted to pathfinder in any shape it should be shared.

Even if all you have done is inputted the text and didn't do the scripting that still reduces the work for the next person. The more everyone shares the better it is for us all.

Thanks

Mind you I have absolutely no idea what I am doing (I just got HL last night), but I will make an effort to get the text in. Where should I send what I have completed once done?
Mind you it won't be anything great, but if it's a start then that would help.

EDIT:

OK: I have a base file for this class, but it's nothing special. Just some basic stuff. Skills, HD, poison use (assassin), trapfinding (rogue), weapon/armor. I am not sure how to create the rest and at one point had to restart from scratch because I did something that would crash the program :)

If someone could offer their help I would appreciate it.
If there is something else I can do I will be glad to help but I need some instruction

Just an FYI, if you happen to know what you did to crash the program, or what you did last before it happened, it would help the designers out to let them know.

as I am porting some stuff from 3.5 into my Pathfinder game, I am looking to figure out how to make classes. I've got the Artificer initially set up, but am having difficulty figuring out how to go about changing their Special Abilities at greater than L1. I am assuming I will need to create Class Specials for a lot of the abilities, but am unsure how to link them to certain levels.

I found the tutorial for the SW characers, but one for Pathfinder classes would be really helpful. Has anyone put something like this together?

Thanks in advance.

If you open up the editor, and then click on help (in the editor, not in HeroLab) the first option is "Help on Using the Editor"

Clicking on that opens the editor help files stored on your computer in your browser - they have how to build simple and complex pathfinder classes in there. If don't already understand the programing language (like me) then also copying exiting class features that are similar will help you to get a feel for the syntax.

Ok thanks. I figured they were out there, I was just looking on here instead of in the help! I have some understanding of programming and how wolf lair oragnizes things. I programmed Army Builder for several years.

Isn't the Ninja, Samurai and Gunslinger (I think it's still V1) in the Ultimate Combat Playtest which is a free download?
When downloading from the other sites - both excellent areas - you do need to make sure you get the right system as well as making sure that things don't overlap. With my Language of Golarion file, it overwrote the original Campaign Setting languages. However with the new Inner Sea Guide (as part of the core assumption), there was a conflict. The ISG is now better than my Golarion Langues file. Keeping those things in mind is paramount.
And when not - asking here like you did is the best way to fix things - I've done it many times myself!
Welcome to the Herolab club!

Demon, Knight, never heard of the class, but once I checked out the Help in the toolkit, creating a class was easy. They give a step-by-step tutorial.
