Add Barding to Heavy Warhorse

I feel like Im missing something really easy here - but when I seatch for Barding in Armor - I cant find anything - am I doing something wrong?
 
Ahh I gotcha - so I just purchase the same items for a normal character. What if the pet or mount doesnt have armor proficiency?
