I recently bought AB online. I downloaded and converted the FOW file.
Everything works until I start to build an army. It either crashes
and closes or there are no options to modify the added unit. I
acquired a free second license and tried on my other PC and have the
same problem. Nothing seems to work.

Any ideas??

I never tried running the converter on FoW, since I'm not familiar with the
game. The converter is not a silver bullet - it doesn't magically convert
things and have them just work. There will invariably be some tweaking
required to get things to work properly. All of this is outlined in the
readme file included with the converter. Did you look at the warnings
issued by the converter and address them in the converted files? Or did you
just ignore the warnings and try running the converted files? If the
latter, then I'm not surprised things failed.

For some games, the converted files require only a couple hours of
competent tweaking to get ready for use. For other games, it might be a
couple days of work. And I'm sure there are some games that the converter
will completely fail for. From a quick look at the V2.x FoW files, it looks
like cleaning up the files should be a matter of hours. But that's
conjecture, since I don't know the game sufficiently to make an accurate
assessement. The place to start would be all the warnings issued by the
converter.

If there are specific warnings that you don't understand, post them here
and I'll clarify them for you. Other than that, first check the V2.x files
to see if they can be cleaned up a bit. Then run the converter, capture the
warnings, and clean up the generated V3.0 files. This process is outlined
in more detail, along with specific areas to check, within the readme
included with the converter. So start with the docs and then let me know if
you have specific questions trying to get things tweaked into shape.

I don't believe that there is a AB 3 data file for FOW yet. As far as I know, I have never had a problem with AB 2.0....I was wondering if maybe there is a patch for this version.

There's no data file currently for FOW, and as stated the conversion
blows it up, but the original AB2 datafile author and I are working on
new AB3 versions. The original author was out of pocket (completely)
for a while, and I have just picked them up. I am dilligently working
on re-writing the files to add more functionality (such as multiple
companies, ruleset integration (including the Division restrictions
from Desert Fox), and more intuitive treatment of units and weapons),
but we have a few issues to work on.

I can't say when files may be ready, but I can say I am trying to
build a good framework that will allow easy creation of new units and
loading of existing ones from new sourcebooks. The original author
said it took 2 years to get the ones for AB2 to the state they are in
now, and we are trying to use some of the new functionality in AB3 to
make things more efficient and powerful. Once we get the framework in
place and get rolling on creating the units, they will be very fast in
coming.

So, hope is on the way...

Thanks

Ted

Where does it state that the converison blows it up?? I missed that
completely. Do you have the link? Just curious.

Thanks!
