Just wanted to put down a few things I would like to have when designing
Armybuilder files.

More than 40 Stats - I'm currently writing files for the Fleet Action 2
game, which has a construction system, and I barely squeezed the
construction rules into 40 Stats. In a few months, they're supposed to
be coming out with an advanced missions book, with more options for
construction - I think I'll need more stats to implement that.

I'd like to see more than 20 Stats in the Construction kit.

Search and Replace for text strings - So that I can rename a stat, and
change all the instances of the original name to the new name quickly.

A condition users can set on the roster, after they've chosen a scenario
(and ideally, change while working on their roster). Then, allow
everything you can to check those conditions. For example, in the B5W
files, there are at least 50 scenarios just for a timeframe, plus one
for tournament rules. Ideally, I'd like to be able to select a
timeframe, and then while editing the roster, decide whether to use the
tournament rules or not. Another example is the FA2 files - a race has
a certain technology level, from 1-9 that controls what options and
items are available to that race (actually, there are also 4 subsets of
the technology level, so I'd ideally like to be able to define all five
(base+4) of them as separate conditions).

If doing that on the fly isn't possible, is it possible to have more
than one selector for scenario? Then, I could make the rules to use
independent of the timeframe. Selecting more than one mode at a time
would also be nice (shift-click within the list?).

Can the rang attribute (and trng, etc.) accept stats or equations as the
limit conditions? I realize that's pretty difficult, though, since
almost anything could come in. Well, perhaps something achievable would
be along the lines of xlat - different ranges of the stat translate into
different pre-set ranges. Controlling the range by type would also be
great, instead of having to add a different range attribute for each
type (and having the ranges reset every time the type changes).

I'd like to be able to define a starting position within the tabl
attribute. For example, when selecting between -1, 0, and +1 as the
options available for something, I'd like to be able to define 0 as the
start, at which point the user will expect to click left to get to -1,
and right to get to +1.

Can istype be made available in more places? I'd love to be able to
control options and items that way.

I can't help with all the new stuff but there is something you can do rather quickly for one of them.
If you save to a text file, you can use your editor's search and replace to quickly change all the references, then use abdata to recompile it.
As for the Wish List.... I have a couple of my own:
- I would like to see is a lot more child unit control available from items. The meager capabilities of uadd, and the fact that the child units that it adds can't interact with its parent unit a quite a hindrance.
- When a constructed item is taken it would be nice if it was editable. That way a constructed item could be taken from a *hide* group with a take:-perm option and elem: to select initial elements, and the user can modify it later. Currently it is not possible to automatically take a constructed item, or to use hidden categories for constructed items.
- Some interaction within the conflict groups. For instance, conflict groups within the items area have no effect on options in the same conflict group.
Cheers,

Good day Imhotep.

I have a question that I am hoping you can answer for me. I put this
question to Mathias Gehl and he referred me to you.

I am working on my own Space Marine chapter for WH40K. I know, I
know...EVERYBODY has their own 'special' chapter. <grin>

Anyway, I am able to make my army list use the VDR rules, but whenever I
select the Custom Vehicle unit and attempt to assign weapons to it, the
Weapons list is empty. I know that I can build links to be able to use
them, but that is one heck of a lot of weapons. How have the other
'splinter' chapters done this? I cant find a 'race' reference that defines
these armies as 'legal', which I suspected was the work-around, in the
base.40K file.

Argh.

Can you help? Sorry to bypass the workgroup, but I got this email and it
seemed the easiest way to ask you.

Cheers!!
