A little calculation help

So rather than make this a bug as it might not be I want to see if I can get some community help first.

My 12th level rogue has a 23 dex (+6) with trapfinding (+6).

I have 12 ranks of disable device and masterwork thieves tools.

I'm wearing leaf armor with a max dex of (+5).

By my (and my group's) calculations that should give me a +30 to disable device checks but HL is reporting that my bonus is +26.

Thoughts on something we might have missed or should I report this inconsistency?

What feats or traits does the character have as I don't get 30 or 26.

+6(Dex) +12(Ranks) +3(Class Skill) +2(MW Tools) = +23

The trapfinding bonus is NOT included in your bonus as it is situational on when you use Disable Device on Traps. Not when you use the skill for anything else.

Also the only part of your armor that is important is the ACP part. Max Dex plays no part in skills. Also if your over weight that will give a ACP penalty.

So my guess is that you have other feats or traits that are giving you a small bonus maybe?

Here is what I get. Hope this helps. It all appears correct to me.

12 Ranks
3 Trained
6 Dex
6 Trapfinding (This DOES apply to Disable Device for all items, but only traps for Perseption so you have to add it manually.)
2 Tools.

Total Modifier is 29.

If I give myself a Medium load it is lowered to 26 and a Heavy Load lowers it to 23.

The Max Dex on armor does not apply to skills, only AC. The ACP for Leaf Armor is 0.

Total comes to 26, not sure where you are getting the extra +4 from. Of course, I'm not thoroughly familiar with Pathfinder, but according to the srd online, I get to 26 and can't find any more than that.

Make sure you check the box next to the thieves tools to activate their bonus.

Yes correct HL is using the RAW interpretation of the ability and it does add the +6 in. So final total is +29. Good catch.

Yep pretty sure its going to be weight based causing it to be +26.

You forgot to add the +3 from class skill here.

That's it. None of us were taking the load restrictions into account. Duh.

Yup. I would almost recommend adding that to a sticky FAQ at the top of the forums. Medium Load is one of the most common things that throw poeple on skills ans AC questions. The second most common is that the Attack Bonus is NOT the same as Base Attack Bonus and takes size into account.
