I've just had an email asking where it says that characters on Bikes can't
use two close combat weapons at once. Obviously the Reaver Jetbike states
this, but that's a special case; was there anywhere that specifically says
you can't, except by implication in the White Scars Chapter Approved article?

In fact, no, there is nothing prohibiting this at all. Maybe it is the old
"auto-drive" system back in play :) BTW I play Sm's but do not field bikes,
so i'm not stating this for my benefit.

>From the UK GT Clarifications:

In the Dark Eldar Codex, in the Reaver description it
says "Characters riding a Reaver jetbike may only be armed with
single-handed weapons, and may only use one at a time (they need the
other hand free to control the jetbike)."

This applies not only to the Reaver Jetbike but to all other bike
mounted models unless their Codex specifies otherwise (Orks for
example may use additional close combat weapons).

And from the 40K Q&A (dated 25May01):

In the Dark Eldar Codex, in the Reaver description it
says "Characters riding a Reaver jetbike may only be armed with
single-handed weapons, and may only use one at a time (they need the
other hand free to control the jetbike)."
Does this mean that:
a) Reaver jetbikes have this rule and nothing else does (Reavers
being hard to control because they get the power boost).
b) All jetbikes get this rule (jetbikes being hard to control because
they fly around the place - wheee!).
c) All bikes, even the Space Marine ones that do not have this rule
listed, get this restriction ("duh, of course a biker needs to keep
one hand on the handlebars").

Answer: C.

You beat that drum so much. Around here, the league I'm in uses the GT
clarifications, and many people treat them as 'official'. Furthermore, all
the RT's I've been in use the GT clarifications as well. They may not be
'Chapter Approved', but a) they almost always make it into CA, and b) are
directly from the Studio, unlike the clarifications obtained from the rules
boyz.

GT is supposed to be exemplary of how the game is played, hence the focus on
sportsmanship and painting. Under those circumstances, I think anything
that's in a GT clarification belongs on the run-of-the-mill tabletop game.

Its the tune GW likes to beat so I'll join the band and play it too :-)

In the UK, GW stores use official Q&A and clarifications - of the 2 stores I
regularly game in, neither uses the Q&A from GW's website. Of the GW stores
I've been to in the UK (apart from the two I game in) only 1 used the
web-based Q&A and even then they used it very loosely - even GW staff dont
like the web-based Q&A (and thats a fact!!)

ROTFLMAO!! Hey...you're funny :-)

No, GTs focus on how much you can brown-nose your opponent so he wont mark
your scores down. You can be the best general in the world but if you win
too easily or upset your opponent, down comes your score.

So once an Independent Character takes a retinue/bodyguard/command-squad he
loses the ability to buy IC-only equipment??

That's your environment.

I didn't say it was, I said that was what it was supposed to be

See my remark above. I've never been to a GT, the stories I've heard make me
cringe. But it is *supposed to be* the showcase of the hobby.

?! That's weird. I hadn't noticed that before. Pardon me while I go find a
brick wall to beat someone against. I'd dearly love to hear the reasoning
behind that. Especially since the last time I had bothered to check up that
particular ruling, it was the other way. Oi. <at a loss for words>

Your right. It was one way in 2000, but the 2001 versions of the Studio Q&A
say no IC wargear for characters w/ retinues.

The ruling is based on the phrase "...is an Independant Character unless
accompanied by..." or something like that... you'd have to look up the codex
as mine's not nearby.

It was explained to me originally that characters that *could* be IC's could
take IC wargear... but now they are reading the rules more strictly.

I think the Studio originally intended for all IC's to take IC wargear
regardless of retinues, but the codex was poorly edited and this is the
results. Same goes for ATSKNF.

No, its a GW environment created by GW staff within GW stores.

> I didn't say it was, I said that was what it was supposed to be

And I'm supposed to be able to go anyway in the world and play the same
version of 40k3 against fellow 40k3 players - it doesnt work like like, me
old china :-)

Rule no.1 - brown-nose your opponent
Rule no.2 - refer to rule no.1

It was in a GT clarification and makes a mockery of the IC rules. Now you
know why people place little stock in GT clarifications for their 40k3
games.
