Encoded text adding a space

In PF Classic, I am running into a minor but annoying thing where using encoded text adds a single space to the string of text.

For example, "{i}spell{/i}" becomes " spell " instead of "spell"

Is there a way to avoid that? This seems to be limited to user-created things, not things from the LW data packs.
