Would like the ability to bind macros to a button or key.

Could you explain a little more? I am familiar with the macros in the programming, but I don't think that is what you mean.
Are you talking about, like in WoW, I hear you can hit 1 button to shoot off multiple powers? What would you use this "macro" ability to do? Or do you mean something else entirely? |

Yes, hit 1 button and have it run a script to do things like:
1) Turn on/off abilities by name (e.g. "B" to toggle on/off bless) 2) Heal/Damage oneself (e.g. "H10" would heal yourself 10, "D5" would damage yourself 5) 3) Turn on/off macros 4) Assign global macros (ones that work across all characters) 5) Assign local macros (ones that only work with the current hero) 6) Turn on/off multiple abilities (e.g. "<F6>" bound that would turn on +4 damage/to-hit, +4 stealth, +4 perception, etc... because I'm a Ranger and I'm attacking my favored enemy). Those are just some examples, others may other use cases. An alternative to actually binding to actual keys would be to create one of those Menus you have for the Basics, Skills, Feats, Weapons...etc.., but have it called "Macros". You would have buttons that you could assign these little scripts to (edit, delete). Oh, and have a "command" to switch tabs. A lot of what I'm asking people are already doing with AutoHotKey, this would just be built-in. Take what I've said with a grain of salt. That's my 2cp. |

Here's an example of a use case:
The above image has a macro that toggles the "Bless" ability and then updates its name. Pressing the edit button next to it will open a Journal-like window: that has a psudo newb friendly language to manipulate the character. The macro would be clickable (didn't make it a button in the image above). You get the idea. |

Something to keep in mind with this sort of thing is Tablets. On a tablet its not really part of the idea to hit a pair of KEYS to run something. Its a single tap of a finger.
I already currently use HL on my iPad using Splashtop and why its not impossible to hit a pair of keys through the app its not really natural or super easy to do that. As they are moving forward eventually with Tablet builds of HL I would think they would want functionality that would work for both. So maybe something along the line of Macro buttons that are easy to toggle on/off then I personally would be more interested. But key-bindings to a keyboard only are so 1953... Well instead of "Macros" you could create "Events" that are bindable and assignable to customizable buttons that are Tablet friendly. Eventually I could see a user-friendly-like editor to create these and they can be shared like we use the .user files now.
