Some folks here helped me create some magic items a while back, but this one is a bit stranger: I have a character that uses ray spells *a lot*.

I would like to create a "weapon" that I can equip in the character sheet that will respond to feats (Weapon focus, Improved Critical, etc) in the same way a normal weapon would.

I always have to remember to apply everything myself, and having to continually have to repeat the calculations out loud to the GM each new time we play is a pain. If it would be printed properly, he would be able to trust the character sheet, and I won't forget to apply each one (as I am liable to do). Ranged Touch does calculate Weapon Focus, but not anything else.

I'm completely blank as to how I would make this happen, as I don't see how the feats actually effect the multipliers, etc. I got as far as creating a weapon (copied Hvy Crossbow), reduced the crit range to 20, removed damage type, etc...

a) Now how does it read "Ray" feats or ranged attack feats that would adjust attack bonuses, critical damage, etc? (like Improved Critical, and Weapon Focus)
b) I've gone through the basic checklist that is there and I'm pretty sure I've got those selections all correct, but is there anything simple I might miss?

I've also JUST realised that if I add this as a new weapon, then it will be available as a new "weapon" and I would be likely able to circumvent a lot of my issues by simply re-selecting the feats to be pointing at this weapon instead of the generic "Ray" already present in the list.

I will await some advice from the gurus here, but if that looks to be the only way, I'll happily take it.

I have also seen that "Ray" is present there in the list that you can copy from (but of course is not something you can add as a weapon to your character sheet) but I figured copying this would still not allow it to pop up as a selectable weapon. Is this true?

And still, any further advice on "Stuff The Will Trip Me Up"?

In zMisc folder of d20pfsrd is a file, TouchAttacks.user, that adds a ranged touch attack and touch attack weapon. Ray is same thing as Ranged Touch Attack. My players use it all the time. Also works good for the magus also to show correct spell combat values.
