First enter the topic that will be the "sub-topic." Click "Containing Topic" on the right hand, and navigate to the topic you want as the parent of the current topic. Click "OK."

Then you should select "Show Nested Hierarchy" using the tool button near Search.

That should show the nested topics in the left-hand window, for Story Almanac, World Almanac, or Mechanics Reference.
