A while back I inquired about the possibility of including keyboard
shortcuts, specifically the ability to choose your army and scenario
via the tab and down arrow keys. (I believe this was in in your
earlier editions.) You said only a handful of people had requested
this. I am always programming on your wonderful Armybuilder and hate
using the mouse. (It also is painful to me, but I can't stop.) How
high is this improvement on your list?

2nd question: Once you started building an army, is it possible to
change scenarios in a manner similar to changing "Composition Rule Set".
Have many folks has for this? I am.

Moderately high. It would normally be moderately low, but (a) a few more
people have commented on this and (b) it's a pet peeve for ME, too. :-) So
this isn't a guarantee that it will be in the next feature release, but
it's a good probability. :-)

It's not possible to do this without some fundamental changes to the
engine. The reason is that data file authors can specify conditions for
army construction that depend on the scenario and that are imposed when the
roster is created (e.g. whether units are even visible to the user). Due to
the way things are handled internally, these can't be changed dynamically
once a roster is created, so you can't switch the scenario. This is on the
todo list, but it's not likely to be added without a substantial rework of
the engine. This probably won't happen until V3.0 comes out, but I haven't
even started THINKING about V3.0 yet, so it's a long ways off.

Thanks, Rob

Since this thread is going on at present, something I was wondering...is the
possibility of stacking units anywhere in the near future? What I mean by
"stacking" is being able to select more than one unit of the same type and
have it show up like this:

4 Saurus Warriors

rather than:

Saurus Warriors
Saurus Warriors
Saurus Warriors
Saurus Warriors

Thanks!!

I'm going to reiterate my request for scroll-wheel support.

That one is not likely to be showing up anytime soon. The reason is that
(a) you're the first one to ever ask for it and (b) the vast majority of
users (across all game systems) tend not to duplicate units exactly. Users
will often have similar units, but usually the model count changes, an
option changes, etc. Compared against the 100+ items already on the wish
list, this one is not high on the list.

Thanks, Rob

Before the wish list starts spewing forth from everyone, please be aware
that I am not planning to do any major new feature releases for quite
awhile. I'm actually starting preliminary work on a new product that will
hopefully see release early in 2002, so major work on AB is on hold. It's
quite possible that I'll be releasing a V2.3 update before the end of the
year, since there are a number of things that would be valuable additions
to the engine. But UI features are NOT planned for addition until the next
major release, which is a long ways off.

Please don't start asking what I'm working on, since I won't provide
answers. Things are still in the very preliminary stages, so it's not even
certain that the product idea will get fully developed. I'm doing analysis
and design work right now. If something actually gets written for release,
you will all be notified. Until then, please be patient.

Thanks, Rob

Actually Rob,
I would like to see something similiar. I think it would be a good feature for historical games especially.
