Anyone working on a Traveller system for HL? Any of its incarnations are fine. Thanks.

I'm just learning how to use the Authoring kit. I started by going back into my original Traveller books (the small black ones).
I'm hoping to get something working for when I get my T5 books from the Kickstarter project (I'm thinking they'll arrive in Dec. 2012) BoomerET |

Hey there BoomerET, any progress on this? What would be great is if you could make videos of what you are doing to create all the code in the Authoring Kit so we can post it for demo reason for the community. I would be happy to host the videos on my YouTube channel.
Thanks. Web site - Cheese Weasel Logistics - www.cheeseweasel.net Twitter - @CheeseWeaselGMZ For user created content check out www.d20pfsrd.com and www.cheeseweasel.net For video demos of Hero Lab go to http://www.youtube.com/user/TheChiefweasel?blend=9&ob=5 |

I like that idea, and I wish I could commit to it.
However, I'm well known for not following through on projects. Maybe this could be my turning point, but seriously, I doubt it. I've got lots more to learn about this fantastic tool, and this may be just the motivation I need to get it going! BoomerET |

Thats too bad, I would love to see a Traveller system in HL. Although the complexity of char creation for Traveller is much more difficult than other systems.

I've tried a few different screen capture tools.
So far CamStudio and Fraps. The latest CamStudio is a pain on Windows 7, doesn't recognize any installed codecs without messing around with the Registry. It looks like Fraps is working for me, so I'll try that one. Any other recommendations? Camtasia is completely out of the question, as I'm not about to spend $300 on a piece of software I'm only going to use a few times. BoomerET Here's the steps I've recorded so far. 1. Open Hero Lab, choose any game system. 2. Click 'OK' at the Configure Your Hero screen. 3. Click 'Enable Data File Debugging' in the top Develop menu item if not already enabled. 4. Click 'Create New Game System...' from the top Develop menu. 5. Enter a directory name in the dialog box that pops up. 6. Enter a name for the game system (will probably add dialog on what are good directory naming schemes) 7. Go to Tools -> Explore Folders -> Program Data Folder 8. Double-click on the data folder, and then the folder that you created. 9. Go to File -> Switch Game System... and click on the game system you created. 10. Click Ok to close information screen. 11. Click View Manual on the Configure Your Character dialog, and browser should appear with generic XYZ User Manual displayed. 12. View files in folder that was opened, as we will be coming back to them to edit in a text editor. Yup, short and sweet, but a great starting point I think! I've just emailed Far Future Enterprises to let them know about the existence of this project. They have a very liberal Fair Use policy, so I'm thinking we're sitting pretty good.
I'm slowly making changes to definition.def (the next step after actually creating the game system.) Also, should we keep this thread here, since I would consider it a User project, but the argument could also be made to put it in the Authoring thread. BoomerET |

Generally, the Authoring Kit forum is better if you're going to be asking questions of the developers - how do I do X, what's the best way to accomplish Y (we check there more often than this forum), and the User Projects Folder is for announcing your progress and begging for helpers who can enter all the data for you once you have the mechanics functioning.
So, I'd suggest a thread in each forum for this project. |
