Imagine the legal hurdles here. Always online requires servers. Servers are hosted by LWD. Which means the way they have legally got around their license shortcomings by getting the Community to fill the void is suddenly not possible. Rob is a smart man so I'm sure he has some ideas but this is dangerous territory.

DnDB won the race here. Both the sprint the marathon and the 2022 Olympics.

Yes, too bad D&D Beyond got a licence from Wizards, which is likely the main reason why LW didn't. Even if/when LW do a port of 5E from Classic to HLO, it can still only be a SRD version, which (almost) no-one will want without an editor to recreate the community pack. Hopefully, that can again work the same way (legally), even being online.

Current RPG's: Pathfinder (GM), Pathfinder (Player), Gamma World (GM, Pathfinder homebrew).
HeroLab: 3.5 & Pathfinder. HL User Files for PF: Greyhawk Setting, Gamma World (WIP).

DM and player of D&D since 1980.

If this was applied generally then they wouldn't be able to offer any form of user data sets, since the data sets would be hosted on their servers.

This puts a massive dampener in their original plans for HLO, to try and replace HLC.
