Magus L1 Spells

For a 5th Level Magus I am not allowed to select L1 spells. After selecting from my spellbook it shows too many spells error and I get 1/0 spells for L1. Am I missing something?

Magus and summoner only receive a narrow band of spell slots, which increases as you level. You once you hit 5th, you can only cast 2nd and 3rd level spells

You are, Magus and summoner are "half casters" in paizos terminology. they only have access to limited spell slots of their highest level (3rd spell level at 5th character level) and the level below that and lose access to lower level spell slots as they advance. you can still highten your lower level spells into the slots you do have though.

I realized what the issue was shortly after posting. It would help if I had the book when I bought the online version for HLO.
