Hello,

Since this is my first post here, I'd like to thank Lone Wolf for the amazing product that is HeroLab - it made the character creation process for SR so much simpler and more convenient! Thank you!

With that said, I've ran into a minor issue with adding a cyberdeck module to a commlink and some other device modifications. It is quite possible that the issue is with me not comprehending the UI, but I would appreciate any advice on the below:

1) I've added a cyberdeck module "Program Carrier" to my commlink, loaded it with Virtual Machine and then couldn't figure out how to actually run anything on the virtual machine. How do I run programs on this virtual machine?

2) It doesn't seem like the HeroLab tracks parts expenditure when installing mods. Am I missing something, or is this manual at this point?

Thank you, looking forward to any feedback.

It just adds 1 to the number of programs the commlink can run. Check if that number increments? You don't add it to the VM itself. That's how it works on a cyberdeck.

Edit: To be clear, the part below is 5th edition rules because there are cyberdecks again.
Also, there's nothing in the rules that says adding VM lets you run cyberprograms on a commlink that normally require a cyberdeck, since that's the function of the of the program carrier module, and the slot provided is taken up by Virtual Machine: it just provides for an extra common program that can be run simultaneously.

2) Also, no that's manual.

Alistair,

Thank you, that makes sense. It is a bit ambiguous, but RAI is probably that virtual machine is not really letting you run two swappable programs - kinda defeats the purpose of the locked module.

Regarding the parts, I hope that this gets automated one day. Thanks for confirming.

Virtual Machine outright says that all it does is let you run two additional programs. If they were locked down, it would say it in the original program (something like: these programs cannot be changed until you reload virtual machine, but it doesn't).

No, instead the drawback is that Virtual Machine leaves your cyberdecks vulnerable to excess matrix damage. By loading virtual machine into a hardwired program carrier, you can't turn it off, so you are always vulnerable.
