I'd like some advice on how to build a class stricture from scratvch for a campaign or setting that doesn't use the standard d20 classes at all (at least not in any recognizable form) but which uses a completely different set. Mongooses' Conan and Starship Troopers OGL titles and the Iron Heroes line currently published by Firey Dragon (a game that emphasizes the fighters over everything else) are obvious examples.

Would those games be worth the trouble of designing the entire temp[late from scratch in order to get the correct feel?

I'm not sure what you mean by "designing the entire template from
scratch". Could you elaborate?

In theory, creating a whole new set of classes should just be a matter
of hiding all the original classes / templates / etc, then adding new
ones...
