And actually taking the feat Martial Weapon Proficiency(Bastard Sword) is a completely legal feat selection.

It's greyed out as non-proficient, but add it and equip it in both hands and it becomes proficient.

Tick both the boxes - so that HL knows you are using it 2-handed. You won't have a validation error or non-proficient message.
