Actually, a thought on this - is there a point to opening the sample game system on its own? If you're going to edit things, you'll be copying the folder to create a new folder named for the game system you're building, right?


So can this issue just be worked around by copying and renaming the folder, and then hopefully the copy won't be auto-changed the way the sample folder is (although how that's happening without a full reinstall I don't know).

Tried that: program came up with the same error. Deleted components.1st: it did not automatically replace it, but came up with the same error message for another .1st file. Deleted that one too: got same error from equipment.core... At that point I just gave up. There seems to be a core dysfunction for the authoring kit, at least for the 8.9k version of HeroLab for Mac, running on macOS Sonoma 14.6.1
