We opted for an approach that requires the least amount of work on our part AND on the tool-makers part, yet still yields a great deal of utility for the user. The approach you've recommended would entail a lot more work for both parties, so it's something we can definitely evaluate for the future, but it's not something that made any sense right now. Too many other urgent priorities.
