Okay, CV is still crashing when I mess around with what's viewed. Specifically, I'm trying to add the rarity field to the MK inventory. I've copy and pasted the error message below. I don't know how much help it will be to you, but if we can figure out what's wrong, I greatly appreciate having a working copy.

Alright, I've just been playing around with the Star Wars TCG files, inputting inventory, messing with filters, views, column sizes, and I can't get it to crash like in MK. Then, I switched to the MK data, went to inventory, and checked the box to make Rarity viewable, and it immediately crashed. And its not just rarity, whenever I try to mess with the vies at all in MK, CV crashes. I'm beginning to think its the MK files themselves.

I can't reproduce this in any way. Can anyone else???
It's possible that this problem is specific to a particular flavor of Windows. What version are you using? Also, are you using the V1.3 data files for MK? Please tell everything you can about your environment so that we can try to setup an equivalent system here to test this. Tell me the O/S (e.g. Win98SE), the graphics card, the video resolution (e.g. 800x600), the graphics display depth (8-bit, 24-bit, etc.), and anything else you can think of that might be useful. Until we can reproduce it on this end, it's virtually impossible for us to actually isolate the problem and fix it. And if anyone else is running into this problem, please let us know!! I just had an idea on this. Load the MK files, go into Inventory, then open
the View form. Before doing anything else, click on the Reset button and reset the view. Then click OK to save the reset state. Now exit CV. Now go back into CV and try mucking with the Views again. If the problem is corrected, there was somehow something bizarre being cached from before, although I'm not sure what specifically caused it. This is just a hunch to try. OK, I did what you said, and everything worked fine, I was able to change them around all I wanted. So I set it up how I wanted, then closed out of CV to go back to checking my email. Well, I went out for a bit and just got back. I turned on my PC to check my mail again, and on a hunch opened up CV. I went into MK's inventory and messed with the views, and it crashed again. This is what happened last time. It seems I can change them however I want once, then if I go back later to change them, it'll start crashing.
I've played around even more with the SW TCG files trying to get them to crash in the same way, but I can't. The only thing I can think of is that its a problem with the MK files specifically, and not CV in general. To answer your questions, I have the latest MK files, I run Win98SE, I have an S3 Virge video card, I'm running at 800x600, and I'm not sure of the depth, how do I find this out? I'll try to crash some other datafiles doing the same thing, and if any others crash, I'll let you know. --Kyle Turner emperor799@earthlink.net "It seemed to me," said Wonko the Sane, "that any civilization that had so far lost its head as to need to include a set of detailed instructions for use in a package of toothpicks, was no longer a civilization in which I could live and stay sane." -- So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish ----- Original Message ----- From: Rob Bowes To: cardvault@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sunday, March 09, 2003 4:19 AM Subject: Re: [CardVault] To Rob: v1.1 problems I just had an idea on this. Wow. I have NO idea why this might be occurring. I have not been able to
reproduce any problems with MK thus far. We'll have to try it out until Win98 and see whether things behave differently. Has anyone else encountered this at all??? To determine the display depth, right-click on the Desktop, then select Properties. Select the Settings tab. There should be a droplist that specifies the number of colors. Tell me that number. This is important, since it can dictate which graphics are being used and how. What about checking the versions of all the controls used in the inventory screen vs. the ones installed on his 'puter. He might have a newer control that is behaving strangely. (Just guessing here). He should also list the other programs running /resident at the same time as the problem. CV doesn't use a single external control. Everything uses the Windows API exclusively. So CV is self-contained, and there aren't external variables to worry about. Well, except for the internet API provided by the "wininet.dll" DLL. But there's no UI with that, so that's definitely not the problem. :-( >(Just guessing here). Uh, my keyboard has a systray app for the multimedia support, I use Callwave Internet Answering Machine, and it lives in systray whether I'm online or not. And that's it. I can't think of anything else.
