Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft hardcover releases May 18th

Amazon has let loose some details of the next book. It’ll have lots of info and optional rules about the Domains of Dread and running your own horror settings, but here’s what had been announced that would be relevant for Hero Lab programming:
  • Lineages*
  • Horror-themed subclasses
  • Investigator background
  • Monsters from a new bestiary
  • Dark Gifts**
  • Trinkets

*If you haven’t seen the newest UA, lineages are the new 5e standard replacing races. The ability score bonuses, languages, and other culture-specific racial bonuses are no longer set by the race, but chosen by the player. In the 5e pack, we can achieve this easily, and continue to treat lineages as races going forward. We’ll just build those choices into each new lineage.

**Dark Gifts are a funny coincidence to me, as I just discovered they were in Curse of Strahd yesterday and added them to my ever-lengthening to-do list for the Community Pack. With either the same or similar ones coming in this book, I’ll likely slate the CoS ones for release alongside the Community Pack release for this book. Depending on how they work, I expect we’ll treat them like Supernatural Gifts.

Candlekeep Mysteries, a collection of 17 mystery adventures, is slated for release next month. I’m assuming there will be monsters and items to add from that book. The current release I’m working on is 3.1. My hope is to have it out before Candlekeep Mysteries, which will hopefully be done in release 3.2, out before May. And then this Ravenloft book will be release 3.3. All of those releases will have additional backlogged stuff as usual. As always, I can’t make any promises that real life will allow such a release schedule, but that’s what my current plan is.
