What do you run Hero Lab on, and how well does it work?
The various posts on how well Hero Lab runs (or doesn't) on the iPad got me curious as to what sorts of systems people are running Hero Lab on and how well it works.
For my part, I'm running the Pathfinder AP Iron Gods for a six character party and using the Encounter Library and Tactical Console in Hero Lab, along with MapTool, PDF X-Change Reader, and Firefox, and it all runs fine in my three year old laptop (3rd-gen Core i3, 4GB RAM, Intel graphics, Windows 10). I also play in a Pathfinder and a D&D 4e game, and use Hero Lab in-play, but as you might imagine it's not as system-intense as DMing. The laptop is a touchscreen model, and I'd be interested as a player in trying the tablet interface in landscape if it were available for Windows. |
Let's see we run it on an i3 netbook, Atom Win 10 Tablet with 2GB RAM, i7 Laptop with 16GB RAM ... I know I have it on at least 1 more computer. I'd love touch stuff to work a little nicer in Win 10 and of course and Android version would be heaven.

2012 Macbook Pro
2015 Mac Mini iPad 3 No issues at all running HL and AB. Would love to run Card Vault and Realm Works natively though |
Lenovo Thinkpad x230 (2012)
Intel i7 2.90 Ghz 8 GB RAM Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) HeroLab works great. |
Gaming table:
Microsoft Surface 3 Pro i5-4600 (Dual Core) 4GB RAM 128GB SSD 12inch 2160x1440 Windows 10 Pro x64 First HL does not scale well, but then neither does windows. So I end up turning off a few summary tabs to remove them. HL does not support touch well in windows UI but still I end up using my pen and keyboard in combination. Other then that, as a player I also have at least 4 PDFs open, and the SRD in my browser. Runs like a dream machine. |

We also run MapTool sometimes as well (we have a TV in the table, but when I run my Ninja and go invisible a lot, I'll load up MT to hide from the other players...) Like Exmortis said, it could scale better and support touch better, but I get away just touch 95% of the time. What PO's me off the most if I'm completely unable to scroll pop-up skill text even with the pen so long texts in hover-popups are unreadable) |
Windows 10 Pro x64
Case: Antec 1100 Gamer PSU: Corsair Modular 1050 Watt CPU: i7-3930K (6 physical & 6 logical cores) Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 MB: Asus Sabertooth x79 Ram: 32 GB, Corsair 1600mhz CL 8 Video: EVGA GTX 670, 4GB Superclocked Gaming Drive: 2x OCZ Vertex 3, 128GB SSD in Raid0 Storage Drives: 4x Seagate 3TB Keyboard: Logitech G15 Mouse: Logitech G600 I haven't upgraded my system since I stopped 10-boxing World of Warcraft, but everything I've done since has run smoothly. It helps that aside from four instances of Diablo 3 (rarely) or six instances of Everquest I, pretty much everything I do is one instance of whatever, on a system that was built to run ten instances of Warcraft, circa Cataclysm. While gaming, I've got a lot of stuff open usually. 3-5 Hero Lab portfolios, Firefox with 15-20 tabs, Combat Manager, 4 PDFs for assorted portions of the current adventure, a couple of spreadsheets for easy access information. |
iPad Air 2
MacBook Air 13" OSX & Windows 10 64-bit via Parallels@i7 2,2 Ghz; always with maptool (until Realm Works Market is active) and Syrinscape Desktop PC/Winows 10 64-bit@i7-5860 Sometimes HeroLab crashes at macbook, in situations when the tactical console is active with a lot of creatures/nsc and pcs |

I have a player with an old Macbook who manages to run Hero Lab all right most of the time but has all sorts of problems with MapTool. |
Miss post.
