Backstory and character notes?

Is a place where we can place character backstory, connections and journal notes? I know there is a journal with notes field but it seems pretty limited. Just wondering how other people do this?

If the Notes under Profile and initial Journal entry aren't enough I generally use a separate document.

Quite a lot. It looks like the limit is ten thousand characters.
