Version 4.4 of the Pathfinder files is now available

Version 4.4 of the Pathfinder files is now available from the automatic updates mechanism within Hero Lab.

This adds the Goods & Services section of the APG's Gear chapter, and includes a number of improvements to how gear is handled in Hero Lab.

Masterwork gear (like Thieves' Tools and Musical Instruments) now applies its bonus while it is equipped, and the corresponding rule that some skills (like craft skills and disable device) require tools in order to avoid a -2 penalty for using improvised tools has also been implemented.

Gear now has the same equipping mechanism as magic items, as well as the same user-selection mechanisms, so that they can apply effects while equipped, like a magic item does.

Here's the full change list, copied from the FAQ:

Enhancements & Changes

  • Added the gear from the APG.
Bug Fixes

  • The Constrict and Rend evolutions for Eidolons were not properly including the effects of the improved natural attack feat.
  • The Concentrate Poison and Sticky Poison discoveries were not available to Alchemists.
  • The Monk's Zen Archer archetype was not granting Perfect Strike as a bonus feat.
  • The Monk's Weapon Adept and Zen Archer archetypes were listing the dice for Perfect Strike as d6's, rather than d20's.
  • The Eyes and Ears of the City trait was not making Perception a class skill.
  • The Fighter's Weapon Master Archetype's Weapon Mastery Ability was not granting its critical multiplier to the chosen weapon.
  • The Human Barbarian's Superstitious Favored Class Option was granting +1/2 bonus, rather than +1/3.
  • If a character has selected a specific deity, the "Deity's Favored Weapon" ability for clerics now lists the weapon proficiencies that deity grants, rather than offering a weapon selection option.
  • The Pathfinder Chronicler's Deep Pockets ability now properly alters a character's light load (if your character had time to properly pack, the ability can be activated on the In-Play tab.
  • The Gnome Rogue and Wizard, the Half-Elf Rogue, and the Halfling Ranger and Rogue favored class options were missing.
  • The existing alchemical items, drugs and poisons now have their craft DCs specified.
  • The Expanded Arcana feat was not functioning correctly.
  • The Hammer of Chaos and Unholy Blight spells were not available to Clerics.
  • Existing skills and equipment have been modified to take advantage of the new skills mechanisms.
  • Masterwork equipment now applies its bonuses to the appropriate skill.
  • The description text for gear and armor has been updated to the Pathfinder rules.
  • Added Unholy Symbols.
  • Holy Symbols now have a space for the deity's name to be filled in.
Data File Authoring

  • Added herofield[tEncumSTR].value. This field is set equal to the aFinalVal of Strength just before encumbrance is calculated, but can be modified by other things. This allows the Masterwork Backpack to alter the character's effective strength for the purpose of encumbrance.
  • The gCraftDC field stores the Craft DC of an item. If this is greater than 0, it is displayed to the user as part of the item's description.
  • Normal gear can now be equipped, and has access to the User Selection options that exist for many other things in the editor.
  • Skills can be marked as either requiring tools (like craft skills) to avoid a -2 penalty or as often using tools (like Heal, Climb and Disguise), but not having a penalty if they are not present. Gear and Wondrous items can be set to provide these tools. Gear that provides tools MUST be made equippable - that way a user can equip it while they have access to those tools. For example, if a blacksmith's shop item was created that was not portable, a character would not have access to it while in the field, so they would un-equip it, but could equip it while they were at their home base.
