Mediation isn't free, but it's quicker and cheaper than going to court. If the differences between you and your ex-partner are about a child, you might be able to get a free voucher worth up to £500 for mediation. Check if you qualify for the Family Mediation Voucher Scheme on GOV.UK. Legal Aid is provided by the government to cover the cost of our family mediation service for families in dispute. If Legal Aid is paying for a lawyer to take your family or child protection case, you may be eligible for mediation services and can ask your lawyer about how to get them. The mediator ensures that the "Voice of the Child" is brought into the mediation process. This is done directly or indirectly depending on the circumstances. If you are part of a court case involving children or divorce, the judge may ask both of you to go to mediation. Mediation is a meeting where a third party tries to help the two sides come to an agreement on their own.
