Microsoft releases .NET as open source

It's probably neutral news. Open sourcing an upcoming version of .NET, seemingly without Windows Forms, is unlikely to help with the current Realm Works and its third-party libraries.

I believe that is their goal, to move Mono development along. Currently Mono is way behind the curve in support of current .net capabilities, at least from what I've read. I believe it should help the Mono team catch up to where they should be.

Giving Mono a boot along would be a good thing. The database support is terrible.

I think it was one of the things stopping Realm Works from being ported to Mac.

Well, that's a bummer. I knew there were parts of .NET they were keeping closed, and I was afraid they might be the more important bits for RW. Hopefully the added support from MS will help Mono get to a point where it will be useful for a RW port.

I have a bootcamp install of Windows that is literally my Realm Works-to-Monitor interface. I bought into RW knowing it would be a problem, but I still am hopeful for a port someday...
